Win a Pet Portrait

This is Tink by Kath Unsworth

Where would we be without our pets? In fact where would this crazy artist be without any animals to draw.

Two fun things this week. Firstly I joined I hope to complete the weekly challenge as an extra way of refining my picture book skills. I’m looking forward to the challenge, all you budding artists please join me, there is some amazing work in there.

The second event is an art GIVEAWAY yes another one. This time a chance to win a portrait of your favourite pet (by ME). Illustrated in soft colour Derwent pencils. It will be no bigger than an A4 page in layout and I will be drawing the winner out of the hat on the date of my monthly newsletter 15th of May.

To be in the draw you must subscribe to the newsletter. (top right) For those already on the subscriber list, YOU are already in the draw. (This is not the follow button) If you need an idea of how your pet might turn out, just take a look at Tink (above) she is my friend Kathleen’s dog.

Kathleen has lovely website, Tink sometimes visits from time to time but mostly Kathleen blogs about food and life in general, she is fantastic writer, often humorous, yet sometimes she touches on subjects we all need to think about. Check out her latest healthy recipe here. I am going to try this one for sure it looks YUM.

Now back to my animals, these two mismatched friends are my sisters dogs.  I loved the contrast in size and could imagine they are the best of friends.

    What a lovely give-away! 😀

I’m afraid a portrait is as close as I could come at this time. I live on such a busy road in a small village. However, I do care for the cats of my friends and would always welcome a picture of any of them. In fact, I have several photos on my computer of Bassie (Sebastian). He is a most talented ginger tabby and meow’s in several languages! 🙂

What a lovely gift, Kath. 😀

  4. snappychat says:

    Loving you drawing Kath.

  5. Well, since I don’t have any pets, I’ll just say what a great talent you are, Kath! I love your drawings!

  6. Really do love your art, Kath! Pets change us in unexpected ways… oddly, I feel they make us more human.

  7. Sara says:

Fun for you to be doing an illustration challenge – nothing like honing skills you already have a talent for. Fabulous! As for the pet portrait, the only pet I have at home is Husby, but he is as loving and faithful as any dog would be. 🙂 But I see if I win I could request something drawn by you. Oh, to have an original Kath Unsworth! I think I’m on your mailing list, but I’m going to double check right now to make sure!

  8. Tammy Schaefer says:

Hi Kath, your drawings are beautiful! I have had cats and dogs all my life and even lived on a farm in my teenage years, so I guess it’s no surprise I’ve made a career as a pet sitter. Right now we are owned by two cats. They are waiting by the door to greet us when we come home, sleep with us especially when we aren’t feeling well. Life without animals would be very empty for me. They really are amazing. I would be happy to have a portrait of any pet, I love them all.

    • Cats are wonderful, they sense your moods, one of my cats will sit on my sons bed if he has had a challenging day and is full of anxiety, we would be lost without them Tammy and I love how you say they own you. Good luck I adore drawing cats.

  9. Stacy Claflin says:

I love the pictures. You’re so talented! We have a smart and beautiful black lab. She’s a great addition to the family, and of course the kids adore her.

  10. Lovely drawings…so much talent. My cats are my companions and much loved. Misha is 7 and Mr. Calvin (I bestowed the Mr. upon him when he turned 10…figured he earned it) is 13 now. Life without them would be an emptiness I wouldn’t want to face. 🙂

    • Christina I understand completely, each one has their own personality and you cracked me up with the Mr when your cat turned ten. Our cats names change. Like for instant my son named his cat Apple he gets schmaps, appy and I call him my big cuddly bear when he wants a cuddle… I am a mad cat woman and the kids laugh when I have my conversations with them.

      • Oh yes, I talk to my cats all the time and the more I talk to them the more they talk back. I’ve had people remark on how vocal they are. We even have arguments, which is only because they always have to get in the last word! 🙂

  11. Kath, my ‘pet’ is a boat and her name is Mojito. If I win will you draw her. Like your new ideas for your blog. Much love, Pxx

  12. Yay, I’m in the draw! (recently signed up for your newsletter) I love your drawings, Kath, they are so dreamy. 🙂

  13. I can’t imagine my world without my cats. They are priceless companions for me.

    • Jennifer I hear you loud and clear, when we go away to my mums on weekends I miss my babies and they miss us, now that its getting cold they squish their noses up on the door hoping to get the best spot near the fire lol…..magnets to heat they are.

  14. We lived with 5 cats for many years, who were all wonderful in their own way, but we got our first dog recently (he’s almost 2) – a beautiful, cheeky Border Terrier an he really has changed our lives. Lovely portraits – I’ve been a little obsessed with painting dog portraits over the past year 🙂

  15. Sheila says:

I love your drawings! The personalities really come through in them. My crazy dog is always showing me how exciting everything can be – even things like mud puddles.

    • Hey Sheila thanks….dogs are amazing, they pick up on so much of the complexities of their owners. Our work dog Sandy is a real gem of a dog the kids love her to bits. Even after a hard days work chasing cows she always has time for them.

  16. Beautiful Kath! As an animal lover and Mommy to three Golden Retrievers and (with the new litter) over TEN farm cats, I am so excited about the drawing. I was wondering though if you take commissions? I had two dogs I loved dearly that died and I would love to have portraits of them. I love your style. is that something you would consider? let me know! And great work on the blog! I’m subscribing!

    • Hi Pam
Great to see you over here, if you subscribed, you might win the portrait I have painted dogs for clients I have one in the artwork tag if you wish to see it. John dog (black Kelpie) was a friends work dog, he died a year or two back and his owner was so happy he had the painting done.Because you live so far away a painting would be costly, mostly postage. But an A4 size pencil sketch would be easier to send and cheaper too. I wish you luck in the draw and then it will cost you nothing.
